ive seen a lot of pictures where dats are with bigger fish. the ones at my lfs say they will get 12" ... are there certain kinds that get bigger?

basically im wondering if i could get one to go in my tank with my 3 p.bass, TSN, and aro? (for long term)

its not a fish "that i HAVE to have" ... i just thought they look cool. if not no big deal, just thought i'd get some opinions :)

... not sure, i will have to ask the LFS ...
(even then they either wont know, or not be 100% possitive)

it was about 3-4" long, obviously white with black stripes. any way to identify them at that size?
which kinds would be ok in that tank?
they were asking $30 for it if that helps. and the store is usually pretty acurate when pricing fish. maybe average/slightly high priced

make sure you get a big dat/tiger to start with as the grow very very slow

if you get say a 6inch tiger it may take 3yrs to grow to 12inch

being white with black strips im gonna go ahead and say its a silver, if so it will max out at 12" or so. as long as your other fish are not large enough to eat it, you should be ok. they do grow very slow so you might want to look into a grow out tank first since the pbass and aro will grow much faster than the dat. silvers are the smallest of the dats also

you were right!!! he was a silver :(
i will wait a little longer, and see if i want to get some other type of dat or not. no big rush
what are typical prices for each species, and how hard are they to get? i dont want anything over $40-50 or so.
are they active fish, or do they just kind of sit mid-low in the water (as ive seen at the LFS)?

i'd pay $30 for a nice looking silver. my IT was $30 and my silvers were 15 each. it depends on how common they are in your area. vendors sell them for about 40. widebars are going to be very expensive and the bigger the dat the more expensive it will be.

mine are very active and i find them all over my tank.
