I have 6 dats (4 2-3" ITs, 1 4"at, 1 4"ntt) in a 55 growout tank with sand substrate and slate caves...Ive never had dats and love them, but since ive had them (few weeks) they NEVER come out of hiding other then to eat and at night when the lights are off. Needless to say I never see them. My question is, should I give them more time to adjust then hopefully they will come out more? or should I get rid of the hiding spots? Just seems mean not to give them hiding places..anybody have advice about this?

I have 3 NTTs in with an RTG. The biggest NTT is 6 to 7 inches and I've had it for a year in which time it has doubled in size. It has only just started to come out of hiding and swim about. My other 2 are 5 an 4 inches, i never see them, only when they come out to eat MS.
My case may be different because of my 20 inch RTG. But I'd say don't worry about it, as long as they eat its normal for Dats to hide and expect them to hide for a lot longer.
