I just bought my first datnoid today and I'm lookin for some advice. I've never kept one and was hopin I could ask some of the more experienced dat keeper's some questions. First are they sensitive, now I don't mean to water quality and such I mean to stress. All fish demand good water quality(except some cats) that's a given. I mean are they easily stressed by boisterous tankmates. Next question is when I first observed my dat in shark aquarium he was black and stayed in a corner of the tank. I take him home and put him in his new home and he's regained his normal coloration and is patroling the tank. My question is the black color a sign of stress or poor water quality. I just want to know so I'll know what that coloration is a sign of. Anything else you can tell me that you think would help me keep my dat happy and healthy would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

dark color means unstable could be stress or could just be the fish... search this forum tons of info... is it a indo or a thinbar most indos are never stable when they are small...

the color almost always means stress. dats will also stay dark if it's a subordinate to another dominate fish in the same tank. to achieve the best coloration, make sure the dat is the top dog in the tank and with plenty of dither fish such as silver dollars or barbs to chase with.

and yes, they're stressed pretty easily.

indo dat....

Welcome to the Dat sub-forum koltsix!!!

I agree with everything that's been mentioned so far. My ITs that in with my NGT will show some fading/insability when I'm feeding because the NGT can be a bully then. Once they are stuffed and back in their areas they start to stabilize.

Beautiful IT you got there...I love the odd markings on that guy.
