I'm not gettin' alot of answers thru goggle other than general location a size even water parameters are remote at best.I'd appreciate your advise.

My LFS has some Dat cf. polota Gold face @ $30 a fish but no real info other than brackish but from what I gather they live both in brackish and lake/river enviorments - can this dat be keeped in low to zero salinatiny?

If so can they be kept with semi-aggressive SA/CA cichlids?
Also do these dats school or at least except same species tankmates?

Before I run out a buy any of these I'd like to know I can keep them for life. I have no plans of starting a brackish tank so your input is most valued. As for tank size they'd be housed in 125 long planted tank and I was thinkin' 3 Dat's with a Jag,Gold Saum, and a pair of Firemouths no dithers.

it seems like u r referring to the silver datnoid, is that right? if so, they are a lil territorial, but doesnt really do much damage... they can be in full fresh ... eats feeders and could and should be trained onto other non-live food...

I kept one with CA cichlids and they left it alone. Although not as aggressive as cichlids they can be territorial and will take up for themselves. They aren't schooling. When kept in small groups they quarrel with each other. Mine got 12-13 inches. Most CA cichlids can do well in brackish conditions so give them some salt and crushed choral.

That's a silver tiger aka polota, in the shop. The reference "gold face"- is total crap.
I kept my silver with blue jack Dempsey, no problems. Agree with janzal, the silver can more than handle himself, and is VERY greedy. Better to keep any tiger in groups of 5 or more.
As for brackish, I beleive that they are a brackish fish, but many keep in full fresh, wether that is right or best for the fish's health is another debate, for another thread.

Some "purests" will strongly advise not to put silver in full fresh. I'm not one of them
though.

silver dats grow kinda slow so u might wanna grow them out first. as mentioned they arnt as aggresive as cichlids but they probly do best in groups of odd numbers and dats grow to a good size about 12+ and i keep mine in full fresh in sted of brakish water but i think it depends on who u get them from

i have about 20 of the silvers , they all seem to stick together , they are feeding on broken masivore delight and also chiclid floating pellets every now and then to encorage surface feeding ,

i had them in slight brackish but brought them up to fresh after seeing a guy who has very large silvers that had spent there life in fresh with no health issues ,

slow growers and will probly hide for the first year
