Just got this 12” forkbar datnoid for a good price of $120. Started off fine in the tank, with only a little tattered finnage from the move. After a few hours though, the arowana and datnoid started to fight for “alpha” in the tank (seen by the few scratches on the datnoid, few scales lost here and there). Now the arowana and datnoid have claimed each other’s territory in the tank, although it’s clear the arowana still remains alpha cuz the datnoid backs down everytime the arowana swims past.
No more fighting anymore, but can see the datnoid is scared. Would the datnoid eventually gain enough courage to swim around the whole tank?

The dat is twelve inches, how big is the aro, and what type? Are there any hiding places - stalking places for the dat? How big is your tank, how deep is it?

You are putting two predators together. Generally, aros and dats go well together, so it depends a lot on suitable environment.

The dat looks to me more like a standard four bar rather than a forkbar. Nice looking fish.

aro is 13-14''. its a highback golden asian aro. tank is standard 6 x 2.5 x 2. no hiding spaces atm. this datnoid stripes are unique, one side is 4 bar the other side is forkbar.

Not really sure if you can see the forkbar behind the fin…. The aggression between arowana and datnoid has stopped, only slight “showing whose boss”.

I hope your dat and aro are getting on well now.
Haha I sold the arowana last month, harassing everything. Now it’s a red channa maru I replaced with. Very peaceful to other tankmates, aggressive feeder, way more entertaining to watch during feeding time. Don’t really have a good photo of it ?
