Hey everyone, I currently have a 56 gallon tank with a fluval 406 canister filter. I was wondering if that filter would be sufficient to house either of a couple scenarios which I’ll let you guys tell me would be best (or neither)
A small Datnoid with 2 small angelfish
3 small Datnoid with my school of neon tetras.
Also I understand the silver Datnoid is the smallest species, however I also understand they can be required kept in brackish which I’m currently not willing to do. So which would be the next cheapest smallest (if applicable) species.
Appreciate the responses!

Datnoid with neon tetra? They’re a fish that eats live food. They’ll have your entire school eaten in one night no matter how small they are.
You may get lucky with putting a small one with angles but the tetras will be a colorful snack in no time.

That’s what I assumed, but I figured that if they were raised with them they would distinguish them from food. I suppose that was a misjudgment, lol. So in that case what would you recommend me pairing with a Datnoid? I understand that doing a pair leads to a risk of aggression. So should I do a trio with no other tankmates or a solo with tank mates. What tank mates would you recommend for my size tank. Thanks.

Ive never kept a group of Datnoids but I’ve seen it done plenty of times. Ive had success with large catfish, bichir, silver dollars, Uaru, fire eel, clown knife, Bala shark, pleco etc. but I wouldn’t recommend any of those for a 56 gallon tank.
To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend a datnoid in a 56 gallon either. They can fit for a while as a juvenile but you’ll definitely need to upgrade quickly.

Ok. Sucks to hear but I appreciate the info.
