Hi all,
I'm new to datnoids. I picked up my first two (indo) yesterday. Hanging out mostly in the ray section, I got spoiled with the excellent stickies. Now I'm trying to learn how to best care for my dats, but I'm struggling to find some information. I thought, let's make a thread (hopefully a sticky) where experienced dat keepers list what foods they feed their young and older dats. Maybe use this format:
Young dat -
A.
B.
C.
Large dat -
A.
B.
C.

Most people will say pellets, but I never feed pellets.
I feed the same for small and large dats, just in sizable pieces for the fish.

Live: cichlids, guppies, crayfish, worms. (I breed them all except the worms. Gut loaded before feeding)
Frozen: prawn, silversides, shrimp, scallops, clams, fish.

I know the new thing is to raise them on massivores only, but i like to use them as a supplement. Stuffing massivors into talapia or gutloading whole fish with it is a gd option with dats with some size.
My small dats i feed wild caught frozen fish (freshwater species) i buy at the local asian supermarkets. Many of these exotic fish come from the exact areas our dats are plucked from. Will throw them mostly small cut pieces of talapia fillet till they're big enough to eat whole fish
My 22inch widebar has been eating frozen spiny goby only since he's been around 15inch

I d love to see pic of your widebar. That's some size. How old is it ?

I will post a pic of him in the next day or 2. I bought him right before the ban (roughly 10 years ago). He was the size of a nickel when i got him (at that time it was very rare they came in that small). He's still growing like a weed!
