I had a widebar dat die a month ago and i had no idea what was going on since ive never seen it before. I assumed it was because i was on vacation for a week and roomates left some pieces of shrimp sitting at the bottom of the tank for a few days. But this is how i would describe it:
The fish would become darker (usually a sign of stress). It would just kinda swim or float midlevel in the water in the same spot for hours and even days. I noticed some kind of white kind of stuff coming off of his skin, but it didnt look like parasites, worms, or ich or anything common like that. I took him out of the tank to avoid the other fish from bein affected, and the next day, his eyes turned white. Almost like a SEVERE ammonium burn but it was like how the fish eyes turn white when u cook a fish, thats how it looked. After i moved it into another tank, i proceeded with adding some fungus treatment, but he died within 24 hours.
I thought i wouldnt have to worry about it again, but i have one guy (out of my 8 dats) that is having the same symptoms. So i put him in an isolation tank and am adding the same treatment. The whiteness in one of his eyes has gone away, and his skin/scales look better. But he is still not eatting and is swimming funny. At least there is improvement, but am worried about him.
Has anyone else ever experienced these kind of symptoms in their widebars? Were you able to treat them? Let me know. Thanks.
