Hey i fed my fish about 3 hrs ago and everything seemed fine. I just went downstairs and noticed one of my datnoids on the filter, and its stomach is real swollen. I dont know what its from so if you have any idea's let me know.

Right now its in my 20 gallon with some salt

Thanks Mauls

could it be dropsy? has it eaten a lot before this happened or did the stomach just got bloated like that?

it ate a normal amount, i just fed cichlid sticks, if it did eat to much will it just digest it all and lose that fat gut? Im only worried cause it was just stuck on the filter, too weak to swim away

yeah if it ate a lot, it might just need time to digest the food its eaten and probably why its just hanging around the filter.. just keep your water clean and observe what happens after a day or two :)

Maybe it is just gas, good luck.

Thanks , so you dont think its a parasite or anything serious?

It could be but so many things can cause a blockage, gas, from over eating, mouldy food, worms, bacteria. If it doesn''t get better in a day or two more try an antiparasitic like paraguard in the water. It with take care of worms and protozoals, if it still doesn't clear up after following the package directions switch to a broad spectrum antibiotic.

I would think if it just ate it over stuffed itself. I would just let it rest now.

mine sometimes gorge themselves like that. the smallest one sometimes eats so much his mouth is full but he cant swallow as his belly is full too. they often lay on the bottom too. sometimed right on their sides. any time my mother comes round if im out and she sees it I get left a note saying one of my fish is dead/dying. but it's just what they do
