Datnoid growing more bars???

SOUTHERN CALI.
new lil dat about 3/4 of an inch when i got him about a month ago is doing very well in his lil 10 gal setup. he is now about 1 inch and eating bloodworms for now. he/she is an IT dat with 3 bars but seams to be growing a 4th in between the 2nd and 3rd

my question is this, am i wrong? i have seen dats that have all their bars at this size already but if i could just upload attachments i would show you what im talking about. is it common for bars to come out after growth? or are they already clearly visible at this size? he/she still fades in and out of normal markings with half its body being really dark some of the time and bright orange with 3 clear stripes and the murky faded one that seems to be coming in more and more since i got him/her.

when they are small the bars are more compressed so it may seem like a 3 bar. as they grow the bars are more visible so u may notice a new bar.
 
A half visible bar will stay like that for the rest of it's life. It won't develop into a full bar.
Your fish is just unstable at the mo. With a bit of luck, the gold and black bars may become very prominant (like my avatar) in the future. How long?? Very hard to predict with tigers.
 
unstable??? how can i make him more stable it seems he has stable coloration before a meal then once i feed him he goes back to dark he was way worse at the lfs had almost no orange to him i was surprised and almost passed on him but the girlfriend got her lil baby dat i told her it gets big but you know girls once its cute they have to have it fortunately i have a 29 and a 125 for him once he starts gaining size

im thinking of just getting a group now and mixing with 2 p bass in my 125 eventually but i would have to get rid of my jags in their hmmmm....
 
i have one that has 3 solid bars on both sides, has always been stable. but recently a "floating" bar is starting to show more and more on both sides, he's about 1.5-2 inchs right now.
 
nice i hope it comes in how did you get him stable? i have caves and plants in his lil 10 gal and he just comes and goes into his stable coloration :screwy: oh its got no substrate just bare bottom can that have something to do with it he had non at the lfs either
