I want to grow out a single ST datnoid, i have seen people do it in pretty small tanks. I think like a 20H not sure. But i want to grow one out for my future Geophagus/severum/pike community.

And where would you be getting a small ST from?
Ive just got 3 2.5" thinbars and they will be in a 17g which is 20 x13x17 high approximately and should be fine in there for a while,then they will go in the growout tank.
Good luck in your search for an Indo tiger or thinbar but probably not an ST.

I've got 5 quarter size indos in a 10g but its connected to a 20g with a emp400. They seem to be doing alright you just have to stay on top of water changes cause things can go wrong fast.

Maybe he's planning to get the baby ST that was being offered in the FS thread by rclark12 a few weeks ago? If those are really ST's, then great pickup.
