i wanna get a dat but i need to some stuff,
are they able to hold theyre own against aggressive tankmates?
they grow really really really sssssllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwww right?
how big of a fish can they eat?

Depends on the dat...one of my NGTs is the bad-arse of all bad-arses. He's fish twice his size cowering in corners, but my other NGT will hide from my smaller dats that are maybe half his size.

For the most part, I wouldn't put dats with aggressive tankmates...just with large fish they can't eat.

They do have a very slow growth rate, but you can speed it up a bit with a high quality diet, frequent water changes, and increased temps.

They have very large mouths for their size. I've seen pics of dats with Pbass in their mouths...and the bass wasn't much smaller than the dat. I try to avoid long, slender bodied fish (unless they are much larger) and stick with fish with higer crests and verticle compression.

depends on how aggressive the fish are, and what species of Dat you have. A NGT will hold its own better then a NTT. But over all Dats are pretty pieceful and not recommended tank mates for very aggresive fish

Yes very slow.

Big mouths so they can eat relatively large fish. The exact size of a fish it could eat depends on how big the Dat is, and the shape of the fish getting eaten.

ok.
im thinking of getting one around 5 inches but down here i can get em for almost anysize.
im gonna be keeping it with an aro and soem cats, but eventually a wolffish.

Mine are w/ Cichlids about the same size (Tex, Jag) and they do fine, but they aren't especially aggressive. I got my AT at 6" and it's been growing about 1/2" per month, maybe a little more, but is getting unbelieveably FAT! My NTT just started eating well so it hasn't really grown much yet, maybe 1/2" in the 2 months I've had it, but at least it's eating very well and is nice and stable now.

IDK about putting it w/ a wolf. If you're talking about Ery ery, then I'd be less wary.

common wolf.
but that common wolf has been kept with tankmates.
how do you tell the different species of dats?
they all look the same in the shop.

oh, ok. don't mean to tell you that you don't know what you're doing :)

look at the ID sticky. Most of them are pretty easy to tell apart, but sometimes IT's and ST's can be problematic to tell apart. AT's and NGT's look nothing like the others, usually.

its fine. LOL
i think the lfs has a couple of different species.
i ust cant remember which when i look at them. :irked:

im pretty sure the shop usually has ITs most of the time.
then also NGTs and NTTs.
occasionally i find ATs.
im going to try my hardest to ID them before i buy one.
