so ive been really into datnoids for quite a while and wanted to know what is the true minimum size tank to house one for life, I currently have a 6’lx18”wx24”h 130 gallon tank and wanted to know what species of datnoid could live in that tank for life and if not how long could they live in there for

When you consider that some dats can grow to up to two feet in length or more in their lifetime you would probably need a tank of close to thirty inches in width and height but very few dats live long enough in captivity to reach such sizes.

Standard 180 gallon minimum for all species.

my buddy have 25" ST in his 300g and it just look like putting gold fish in 10g. That would give you some ideas.

Also are there any alternatives to datnoids, I’m looking for a large predatory fish with a similar body shape and has the same personality as a datnoid but doesn’t get as big

Some of the leaf fish can look pretty similar and are predatory.
Not sure on the sizes, some get 6-7" I think.
Other that that a nice wild Oscar or spectibilis umbee relative
Edit
caquetaia kraussii
caquetaia spectibilis

I like the caquetaia, do you know if there aggresive or will they be able to live with some clown loaches
