wanting to do a datnoid tank. but im also wanting to throw a few archer fish into the mix. i was wondering if these fish do ok together? also, so that i can have some other fish - can i run freshwater setup and just add a little salt here and there. i would like to throw a couple cichilids or a tsn in there. but if its going to stunt the fish or be an unhealthy environment then ill think of something else. thanks

The archers are brackish so putting a little salt in the water isn't going to be what's best for them. As to your other choices, I wouldn't put dats with a tsn, it's going to grow way to fast and end up eating your other fish. Dats don't grow as fast as the other fish your planning on keeping with them and starting out with larger dats would be doable but very expensive. If you went with AT and NGT then they would go nicely with the archers since both of those species like a bit more salt in the water than the other dat species.

do you think there would be ne aggression with AT and NGT being in same tank with archers? its a 6 ft tank, 18 inches wide and 24 inches tall. i was only going to put about 3/4 water lvl in the tank (since plan on buying baby fish) and have some driftwood and vegetation coming out of the water to put crickets and other insects on for the archers to shoot down :headbang2

also would like to get a couple breeding pair of each to try to get some fry @ some point. i still need to research on if its possible to breed either in captivity. dont know much about either.

guess i could roll brackish and keep searching for other species that r also brackish.

thanks!

oh and if i grew the dats out in brackish water, and wanted to put them in a 420ish gallon freshwater setup in a few years - would that be ok? ive got the plans for it, actually 3 plans. one with a built in double sumps on each side, one with two sumps on one side, and one with no sump @ all but will cost alot of more in glass/acrylic. so i need $$$

Start with either 1 or 4 plus tigers to avoid fighting.
I have 7 inch archers in FW with tigers. Go really well together..the shop said they were caught in FW.
ngt and at will be fine in FW. Fill tank to the top .... Not 3/4 level.

If you go brackish, and then want to go FW, just fast drip aclumate the fish for 1.5 hrs in a box before transferring.
