Hello
I know we are probably all tired of all the datnoid training threads, but I know there are a stack of people out there still trying to train their datnoids worrying like me:confused:
If I could get any answers to the questions as I have been starving the little fella for a while.
I have a 3 inch NTT / Thinbar (approx 3 inch including tail). So far he only eats feeders and nothing else. He has had his last feeder exactly 3 weeks ago. He is in a tank with a few 2-3 inch tinfoils, a 4 inch lemon barb and a few geos. All the other fish eat anything with no problem. The dat NTT has not touched anything for 3 weeks, (pellets, bloodworm, frozen food)

He does not look too skinny, and when i put in the pellets he looks interested when he sees the others eat, he will move around and half stalk them but not actually bite/eat any. Is this a good sign? is this progress?? (that he is actually noticing them now)

Does the type of pellet I use make much difference? he would be too small for massivore. I am currently using a pretty average pellet, and am thinking of using NLS medium fish formula (2mm size). Would this be more tempting for the NTT? Or what would be the best pellets to use if any?

He will not eat anything not even bloodworm, I was hoping to get him onto pellets, but will settle for him eating anything besides live at the moment.
It has been 3 weeks, should I give up, and give him feeders for a while, and try pellets again when he is a little bigger or keep on starving him?

Any advice would be good, this is my first dat, and do not want to lose him as they cost more than an arm and leg in Aus!
If you do not have answers then anyone out there who could donate me a dat that could have a word to my lil guy and set him straight would also be appreciated;)

Unless hes looking super skinny, I would stay away from the feeders. Have you tried market shrimp? The fact that hes showing interest is a good sign. Don't take that away by giving him feeders again. I've also never had a dat refuse freeze dried krill

My 5 inch IT has gone 5 weeks with no food. It's still not skinny. I feed pellets and prawns and blood worm daily. He won't touch a thing.
Another 3-4 weeks should do it. I think he will go beyond the 6 week conversion point. He a tough one to crack.

Anyway, to that ntt is small and due to the cost in AUS, I would not starve for much more . NTT are the weakest of tigers which doesn't help. Try live river schrmp instead of feeder
Fish. Or just keep on with feeders till he is 4 inch at least
And fat.
This is the only time I say use live: cause of how hard they r to get in AUS. I won't ask about price....

Just go supermarket and buy a frozen bag of prawns. The small type.
Then defrost in water , cut into tiny bite size pieces and feed.

I fed my NTTs only live ghost shrimp. One day i tried MS and they all went for it. After losing the largest for unknown reasons i would like to get them on pellets.

Will try freeze dried krill when i can get some. He won't even look at blood worm. Have not tried market shrimp, is that just small shrimp you buy in a deli? Not sure what it is, don't use that term in Aus.

Thanks. Will try market shrimp. Also you don't want to know price dats go for here
Was thinking of holding out till end of this week to make it 4 weeks as he is looking interested but not quite going for the food. Then will give feeders again. What Pellets do / would you use or have best luck with?

A while back i had the same problem too.
just try to get him to market shrimp or prawn for a week. then try stuffing in NLS (i used 3mm sinking) and feed for a month. starve for 3 days or more and try throw in some NLS and see if he eats it. that worked out for me. i hope you get him to pellets good luck! ;) nice 650 btw
