Datnoids seem to be pretty cool right now i have a 55 gallon 21 inches high 13 inches wide 48 inches long and i was looking at the datnoid, ive heard their slow growers and would prefer a freshwater one, my tank is currently being cycled and im only going to have one fish, i can give it a larger tank within a year or more or so,so enlighten me!

If you get him at a small size, he could live in there for a couple of years or more, depending on feeding and water schedule. Why only one fish if I may ask?

get like 5 baby Dats, should be about 20$ each on average. and put em in the tank with some dithers and it should be awesome!

Because i like my animals as healthy as possible and to be free of stress, keeping him by himself i believe will accomplish that, btw ive heard some are captive bred is this common? ide like to get a healthy, captive bred datnoid, what species would you recommend? i dont think i can upgrade to an 125 gallon, probably an 85 gallon

No dats are captive bred. I would advise against housing a dat alone. When small they hide alot, and the tank will be VERY boring!

As far as species go, if you are in the states other then in socal, you will have a pretty hard time finding any species of dat so take the first you can find!

In most instances it is. It is pretty safe to say that if you are in the U.S. you are not going to see any CB dats unless the small Indos that popped up within the last year were captive bred and I didnt hear about it (totally possible BTW!).
