Hello all,

I've got 3 Dats in my tank now, with other fishes. Dats are about 11 - 13", the problem is they are always fighting.. and doesnt swim right, like swim downwards. when i on the light, they'll all swim to the sides of the tank... whats wrong?? they were ok a month ago.

Any advice, or experience ya'll had feel free to share. It would mean alot!

my dats hide all the time at fist when the light was on now my thin bar and ngt will come out with the lights on but this was after 4 months of lights. they will fight but most likely nothing will come of it.

I don't think you have reasons to worry unless the aggression is getting out of hand.

What do you mean, i see them get scars and eyes of one of them is foggy, is that the case of a bite?

Definitely the scars ...make sure your water is clean so infections don't occur. I would add at least two more dats to spread the aggression and/or a school of silver dollars as dithers if your setup/filtration allows it (Otherwise keep just one dat - sell or move the other two).

Some dats are not use to the aqua lighting. Your situation is normal. I have tested 2 of my very unstable dats into a driftwood tank with some other fishes mate with dim light. Now they are mostly stable all the time.

It is really depend on the individual fish itself. I have one super stable IT which I nvr see him unstable. Whenever I drop some prawn in, he is the first one to get the prawn.

Most of my ITs are unstable like what you have said. However, lighting could be one of the thing that you could look at plus some tank mates and driftwood(not too much).

i have read that dats dont like bright lights and you need to use subdued lighting i have dim lights on mine and my dats are out but alot of people use bright lights and their dats are fine i think they just need to get used to the light.
and for the fighting more dats are better or as said dither fish would help

Water is good, condition 99.9%, so if i add in more dats, does size matter?

haha yea read alot about it, okay heres the deal. My light is a 6ft with 4 tubes, sizing 34" a tube. and previously i used 4 pink lights, and they arent swimming, but i've 2 pink tubes to white tubes, and guess what they are now swimming!! super wired.. the tank is much brighter now.. hahaha
But fighting still occur so i'm planning to get 2 more DATS! :)
