Every now and again one of my datnoids gets tiny pimples around the head region.

They burst and then heal quite fast.

The fish are still active and have no change in behavior.

I have now noticed one of my larger datnoids has a couple.

Anyone else have these on their tigers?

Steve I have not noticed this on any of my datnoids.

for a while, many datnoids died from it, a vet. did some lab studies and concluded that it was a protozoan infection, when the water quality goes down, it over runs the fish, its highly contagious, but not easily treated. But if your fish seems fine, I would just keep an eye out on it.

Thanks mate.

Anyway to treat it?

looks haunting! Several members here and there lost a large portion of their collection, including other fish from this. It seemed that the more water I changed, the faster they died... I normally would recommend larger water changes without disrupting the biological filteration, but at the same time lowering the nitrate levels to a minimal, as it could comprimise their immunity., other than that, good luck. It had killed a whole tank of tigrinnis catfish when I added a apparently contaminated new guinea datnoid to the tank, and 2 days later, I lost 50% and then and the rest within 2 days! Alfon76, a vet, might be able to chime in here.

first off let me say im not an expert nor do i know exactly what those "pimples" are but when i got lazy with my water cahnges I would notice them on my dats, and as you say, they would go away with time suggesting that they were not a problem, but since i got more strict with water cahnges I have not seen one. This suggests that it has to do with poor water quality. I do not know how much they effect the dat, but i do not want to fins out. keep up with your water cahnges and see if that makes a dfifference

is you dat 16?

There was talk about this awhile back. It was termed as Datnoid disease and so far it was known that only dats suffered from it. It is highly contagious and certain meds have no affect on it. The most effective cure for it is salt and heat and water changes. 2 years ago I bought a 6" thin bar with it and was able to cure it. Lots of mfk members tigers have died from it so I would take it seriously.

I hope it isn't what sinister says it is, becasue i have read up on that alot, and it almost seems like a deffinite death if your dat gets it. The dat taht I have that ihave seen these pimples on is also a thin bar, and I have had it for a couple of years now so i dont think it is that dat desease because it comes back once in a while (until I did more water cahnges) Do not know if yours is diff from what mine has but lets hope not
