Dats and Fire eels

I see that many people keep fire eels with their Dats.

Has anyone had any problems with keeping fire eels with small Dats?

I once owned a fire eel and have seen another one that seems to be about 11 to 12 inches. I don't want to get it if this is going to cause problems when I add small Dats to the tank.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

I have dats and a fire eel together, though my dat is 3-4" and the eel is 10-12" not sure he dont come out often, the eel was added last and they dont go near each other.

I once kept 2 12+ Fire eels with some 1" dats fine for months.

I think whilst the Fire eel is small then 1inch Dats should be ok, its when the eel gets much larger as will grow alot quicker, then im concerned it could become a problem.

I usually get Dats at 4inch plus, but recently bought a 1.5inch Indo which is really outgoing, so plan on collecting more of this size when available.

What I don't want is possibly in a years time having a large eel that snacks on new Dats preventing me adding to my collection.

I was planning on adding a FE to my Dat tank as well.

Dont they have small mouths and are very shy? Wouldn't this suggest they wouldn't eat any Dats that weren't extremely small?
