For those of you who have your Dats eating pellets how did you do it? I'm happy mine will eat all frozen food but it would be nice if I could get them to eat pellets also.

The trick I have heard is first get them eating freeze dried krill and then after a while add some pellets in with the krill then eventually just put pellets in without any krill.

I am at the krill stage my self :D

I have in the past tried freeze dried krill, the problem is it floats at the top. Do you have a way to get it to sink? Also, is that all you offer them until they eat it or do you still feed other stuff?

ya just offer them the krill eventually they will take it, you want it to float so then they get used to taking food from the surface then they can learn to eat floating pellets.

What I did to get my first Dat ever on pellets was give them feeders once a week, and fed pellets everyday. The catfish would eat them and after a few weeks the Dat started taking them. Once that happened it was easy to get them on Krill and other frozen foods, and i never needed feeders again.

Any new dats get put in a tank where there are already dats that eat pellets. They will copy the other dats in a couple days.

I luckily have never had to feed my Dats feeders. They mostly eat the frozen krill so they do like krill, so maybe thats a help. So maybe if I fed krill once a week and tried pellets every other day maybe it would work for me also. What kind of pellets do you guys prefer?

I use Hikari Bio Gold and Hikari Cichlid Excel

I'm stoked...some of my IT's are now taking NLS 3mm sinking pellets. I didn't do anything special. One day, they just decided to eat them. They're now accepting the NLS, Hikari carnivore sinking pellets, and Hakari Massivore pellets + anything and everything frozen, market shrimp and live nightcrawlers. They only feeders they get are occasional excess fry from breeding pairs of cichlids.

mine wont touch them :(

he eats krill like a mad man, and any kind of meaty looking piece of food. but a floating pea rock just doesn't attract him. he's tasted pellets a few times, then never again lol

if i fed feeders once a week, he would wait til that once a week comes along for his feeder frenzy.

i've been starving my indo for over a week now, hoping for something soon grr

That's what i'm afraid of. I am gonna give it a try though. Mine don't even come out when there is non meaty food fed. Mine also love frozen krill!!!
