as you prob know by now
i just got two massive dats, one indo 1' and wide bar even bigger.
had some problems 3 weeks ago, amonia problems, switched to tank fully cycled and no detectable trace.
the indo eats and goes for beef heart, i got told that its not good for them.

why not? does it shorten their life? kill them?

anyways, i starve themn to feed shrimp, after 4 days of no food, the indo eats a shrimp today, yay!
but the wide bar seems dis interested.... its definatley hungry, cos i put a gold fish for each, they went into the belly wiht in 1 second literally.

but it wont go for shrimp.
should i starve it more or feed it live food? i really dont want it to get addicted to live food, hard to take it off live food.

if i starve it, will its natural instict to survive kick in and say, 'ill jsut eat it cos otherwise ill starve'

any ideas?

Starve a little and give more time. One good thing you have going for you is that your indo takes the shrimp and the widebar should see him as an example and follow suit. By now he should already recognize it as a food source, now he just needs to get over his stubborness. Good luck, and Dats and most fish, especially larger ones can go quite sometime without food as they are mostly oppurtunisitic eaters.

what will feeding it ox heart do?
does that shorten its life?
or just messy?
im not too sure, but i would think it has something to do with the amount of mammal based content as opposed to something a dat would naturally eat. maybe too fatty for them? i have never fed any of my dats this product so i cant speak from experience.

i find that its supposed to be a common food for fish.
aros and discuss are fed beef heart. breeders feed discus beef heart
and they hardly dismember fallen cows in the amazon:D lol

yep pretty much my thoughts too.

yay
finally
the indo is eating shrimp
after starving him a lil bit
funny cos i fed him some beef after some prawns
now he ate three pieces, didnt spit it out
i believe he will eat this now
but the wide bar, im concerned, not eating, i hvae not seen this guy eat anythin else but a gold fish.
is he gonna starve or does he eat bits of shrimp fallen when im not looking?

he doesnt seem thinner
his colour is stull very dark and unstable
he is much more active now that hes in a nice big and clean no amonia tank
but he seems very still docile compared to the other one,
is he bullied by the other?
i never ever seen them fight, they seem to get along.
