I dont know where to put this so i'll just put it here, I need some info on dats.

How many types are there that are fw?
Are there any that can live in a 120gallon for life?
I'm thinking about picking some up for my 120gallon later on, Whats a good site to order them from and that are semi cheap.

All the datnioides species *can* be kept in fw. Silver Datnioides/American Tigers do alot better in brackish conditions.

None can live in a 120 for life. They do grow incredibly slow so it will take many YEARS before any of them outgrow a tank that size.

I bought my thinbars from TFD and they are awesome. They were small but had full necklace and some intense coloration. I bought some wide-bars from Rare Fish and they are awesome too.

Agh, thank you very much. How big do most dats get?

I also had a dream that my gf drove me to the fish store and they had wide bar dats and asian arowanas and all these types of amazing fish i felt like i was in heaven lMAO

Ive never seen a dat over 14inches. And at that size they are probably 5-10+ years(?) old. THey are expensive. Widebars at 4inches can be 70+ dollars.

Datnioides pulcher (wide bar) are freshwater and get around 40cm.
Datnioides microlepis (Indonesian) are freshwater, and get around 45cm.
Datnioides undecimradiatus (thin bar) are freshwater, and get around 40cm.
Datnioides campbelli (New Guinea) are freshwater and breed in brakish, and get around 32cm.
Datnioides quadrifasciatus (silver) swim between freshwater and brakish, and get around 30cm.

I believe Thinbar are the cheapest and you can find them for $20-30 at around 1.5-2” in fish stores. Datnoids tend to be cheaper on the West coast too.

Thank you very much :) i emailed tfd and some outher site to see what type they had in. Because no where near me sells Dats

2 inch widebar in my brackish tank

19 dollars from the LFS!!! :headbang2 :headbang2
