Are crawdads unable to kill after theyve been declawed?one of my crawdads killed my senegal and well the one that killed the senegal is in puffer fish poop. and i just declawed my other ones. so does that make them safe for my fish? I kno its a cruel thing to do but its that or well...:(

i think you know you need to rearrange you tankmates there

The claws will be back next time the crays molt. I know you found this out the hard way-but you can't keep crayfish with most fish. They'll either eat the fish or the fish will eat them.

i only have three left all small, one is in a tank by itself cause its almost a blue color and its really weak the other are with lil one inch fish so... i might be able to put them in a plastic containor but i have no glass tanks for them. the crawdads are .5 to 1 inch.

You should rehome your animals as soon as possible. If you're resorting to measures that you know are cruel (and dangerous by the way), you're not fit to own animals currently.

When you take pets into your home it is your responsibility to provide the best care and environment possible for them. And if you cannot meet their requirements, you should not have them.

You need to set up a proper home for your animals, whether that means rehoming incompatible species, obtaining and setting up more tanks or placing in barriers in existing tanks (breeder containers work well for smaller crays, I use them to keep juveniles away from adults). But mutilating your animals to force them to be "compatible" and safe with each other is unacceptable.

This is by no means an attack, so don't take it as one. But really now, we do NOT mutilate our animals. Especially with measures that don't effectively stop the issue (crayfish can still overpower weaker creatures without their claws, it's more difficult for them, but they can), and additionally, creates open wounds that allow the commonly found Ramularia and Didymaria (one of the main causes of shell rot) to be able to breach the cray's carapace. Also, removing the claws without proper measure can result in internal damage that can ultimately lead to the death of the cray.

If you don't have the means to appropriately house and care for your crays I'd suggest putting up ads here on MFK, on AC, on Bluecrayfish.com, on Crayfishmates.com and Craigslist to have them rehomed. Or use them as feed for your puffer, but keeping them in the long run without proper care is ill advised at the very least.

:iagree:

The crays shouldn't bother your fish to much if you keep them well feed, mine never do, but agression differs for speices. Still, declawing should not be necessary. The claws will be back, and their bite is just about as bad as their pinch.
