DE FIlter Powder same as Pool Sand?

everyone keeps telling me to get pool sand, but all i'm familiar with is DE Filter Powder.

pool filter sand is used because its cleaner then play sand and containc less contaminests. what dose it say on the"DE FIlter Powder" stuff?,

also you can ask your questions in one thread insted of making 100 threads each time, its all relating one tank right?


pool sand is not used the pool. its used in a fluidized bed system filter, where water flows through water filtering the water.

DE = Diatomaceous earth and it's not the same as pool sand.....

Nope....DE is a VERY fine white powder. Basicly the crushed shells of ancient sea creatures thats been mined and refined.

Sand intended for swimming pool sand filters can be used as a substrait. It's a cleaner and more consistant version of the crap laden stuff sold as play sand.

Attempting to use DE (diatomacious earth) as a substrait will result in perminatly cloudy water and VERY short filter life. Not to mention dead fish...

these stores carry quick crete pool filter sand it was 5.22 at my store...
