just a curious question, will asian aros also get DE? i'll be getting my first malaysian green arowana tomorrow and therefore my first asian and i was wondering if it is also susceptible to drop eye?

All aros can get DE its just alot more common on silvers and less likely on asians, jardinis, africans, and blacks

I don't know if this is a correct assumption but i've seen more reds with it than others, it also doesn't look nearly as bad as on silvers IMHO.

Asian aros get it too though i agree with classic-chassis that it tends to be less severe. i mean, in silvers i have seen DE where eye is looking downwards ... completely (looks really disturbing)

Even the asian arowana have DE, there are two big reasons and serveral small reasons to the DE(according to the book i have read)
1. When u feed them live food like goldfish and especially live krill or shrimp, which make your arowana tend to look for foods at the buttom of the tank instead of looking up like it suppose to. After a while it became your arowana second behavior and then they likely to have DE in just about 2 or 3 months.
2. When you sudden turn the light on or do something that freak your arowana out, it will try to jump or swim very fast and bump it head on the process. Normally when they bump their head they don't seem to effect their eyes but on occasionally it does and when it happen your arowana suddenly have DE at Imediate stage or at advance stage
and You can't do anything about it except preying that they might go back to normal.

Here are some solution to sold the problem

1. If u know that ur arowana have DE because of the first reason, you can starve him about 3 days or up to 1 week ( don't worry 12" plus arowana can survive at least a month without feeding) and when start feeding him again mustn't use the live food but u can u use some frozen shrimp with their shell peal off, You can grab on end of the shrimp by your hand and feed the arowana through the hole on your tank and wait for them to eat. Usually they don't eat very much when u feed them like this but it actually help the DE at he initialy stage. And oh yeah when they got use to this and u can always feed them like this, consider your arowana is trained because it always come by the feeding hole whenever u come and place your hand at the feeding hole (even without food), which is totally awesome. My arowana does that all the time!
2.God help u so start preying but still there are some rumor that it can be cure by the classic salt batch (at initial stage)

hope u find this helpful!
