This wouldn't be my first time doing this but I've never considered doing this with a larger tank, this isn't so much for the aesthetic as it is for function, I have things I wish to use with too tight a radius for the rim. If need be I can lower the water level in the tank.

Tank is a brand new aqueon 40g breeder manufactured Sept 2015.

Other things related to this build I have questions about is my overflow should I decide to sump it. I use 1 inch electrical mip to fip with gasket material instead of bulkheads on a mixing container should I trust this aproach on a diy glass overflow?

Could also use information on building a very low profile overflow. I'm not good with working on acrylic and my tools are limited, I could possible get a dremmel for the project if needed, otherwise I'll use a hacksaw and exacto

The glass on the top under the trim is very very sharp. Be careful. I sliced my hand open when i took the top trim off to replace it with a new one

There is many options out there. What is this tank intended for?

A friend once asked me whats the best filter. I have a lot of experience with every filtration and I told him sponge filters but make sure you do water changes on time.
He bought 1 big sponge filter for like 7.99 on sale at a lfs and been using it for years.

I have a sump in my 200 gallon and sponge filters. It came like that predrilled so I kind of had to use it or else it would be kind of wasteful you can say lol.

Why not just make one yourself rather than drilling. Of course drilled is a lot safer and nicer to have but this can be made easily.
