I bought a bala shark for 3$ at petsmart and it didn't survive the night it died in the morning, my mistake on thinking he could go for one day without a heater in the tank, anyways I was thinking can I chop him in to little peices and feed him to my oscar or pacu? It was a tiny one btw

Why dont you just take it back and get another one? Whats the point in feeding it?

I wouldn't do it. Whatever killed the bala could be still in the body. Why risk infection?

It'd be no different than if the fish was placed in a tank and had gotten eaten by bigger tankmates. What would be the point in taking the dead fish back to Petsmart,do they offer a return/refund on fish that die in the customer's care?

think they have a guarantee but need sample of tank water. Are you sure it *wasn't killed by Oscar? *edited(typed too fast and didn't proof read)

Joe is blaming the death of the bala on being in an unheated tank overnight not the Oscar.

You can bring fish back to petsmart for 2 weeks after the original sale for a return or refund for a fish dying with receipt. Doesn't matter the cause and I've never been asked for a sample of water when replacing a dead fish. And the shock of the fish going from whatever temperature at the store to your cold tank temperature could have definitely killed the bala.

Two weeks!...thats actually a pretty good return policy and I'm surprised they have something like that in place.

The return policy is for a fish that is sick and died. In this case, OP mentioned the fish died by not heating the tank. I will not return the fish under this circumstance. I will not feed it the other fish either.

Early in my hobby I was just as shocked because I was killing and replacing a lot of fish until I figured out what the hell I was doing wrong. I believe pet supplies plus has a limited return policy as well. Just one more reason or incentive to spend the extra couple of dollars and get your fish local instead of online.
