Hi everyone this is my first post, i have had 2 barramundi in a 2 foot tank for a few months now and yesterday all of a sudden they started fliccking and darting round the tank, within minutes the smaller barra and 4 rossy barbs for feeding were dead. i started racing to do water changes not really knowing what was happening. The larger barra seemed to relax and start to recover but this moring he was dead. Can anyone tell me why my fish would die so suddenly? Thanks Ruxton1

we need more information than that to determine what was wrong. What are the water parameters? what is your maintenance schedule? How long has the tank been set up? Was their any other fish in the tank besides the rosies and barramundis?

from what i can see is that smaller tank seems to be more difficult to take care of....

through my observation and years of experience in keeping fish... i've noticed that bigger aquarium 80g and above seems to be much more easier to take care of compared to the smaller ones... in terms of water stability etc...

Hi derekp, im sorry im new to this i dont know what water parameters are, all my tests showed everything in the water was fine, the tank has been set up about a month longer than the fish were put in so about 4 months, and as for maintenance i would normally do a filter clean and 2/3 water change about once every 3 months as long as all tests were good. There were no other fish in with them.I looked through this site yesterday and found a list of illness and ailments and the only one that seemed to fit the bill was acute poisoning. from the time the fish were fine till the time they were dead was like 30 mins.

Hi alvinchunggcb, thanks for your reply and i agree, my wife has a marine set up and we learnt the hard way earlier on that a larger water volume is more stable, happy to say the marine is going good. Just my poor barra lucked out. I have 6 young children and though we have tried to educate them i suspect now one of them may have sprayed something or fed the fish somthing that contaminated the water.
