i had a clam in my 75 gal reef die over night, nothing else in the tank is stressed out or ailing. does anyone know why this might have happened? i had it for almost 2 years and fed it regularly, a dude once told me sometimes things just die without reason, i disagree could it be true?

well first what fish and inverts where in your tank? How was your calcium levels? and what was your lighting?

i have some florecent and a 150 w metal halide lamp, calciums about 475-500 no inverts close enough to touch it,2 tangs, 2 clowns, 2 chromis, 1 hawk, 1 watchman goby. same configuaration for 2 years and no problems. im stumped and i really liked it!

its possible your tangs could have been nipping at the clams mantle which the our know to do especially yellow tangs there the worst for it could have been light shock if your lighting was higher then the lights where you bought it the clam could have had light shock and stressed out and died those would be my guess.

they do that on occasion most times the clam closes in time but continual attempts can stress them to the point of death
