Dead discus

My girlfriends dad just got 8 discus about 2 months ago they are in a 180 gallon tank with a few cardinal Tetras. Yesterday one of them kind I had its fins clamped and today he was dead. Any ideas what would cause that randomly? All of the others are fine. I'm new to discus and he's confused lol

could be lots of things.

was it eating? how big was it? was the tank cycled? waater paremeters? how often does the tank get a water change? what was it being fed? is the tank decorated or bare bottom? where did he buy it?

a death is never random unless it was attacked. theres deeper problems. chances are it was never healthy to begin with......

He got them from a breeder outside of Baltimore Maryland it was swimming a little awkwardly the first day or do and then once it got used to the tank it was swimming like it was never a problem. The tank was cycled its been running for a few years... He did just about 3 months ago by a new canister filter so maybe the filter media wasn't cycled I'm not sure I'll have to ask him more but his water params are ok according to Petsmart I'm going over tommorow to check into it better
