i recently bought a poly-resin decor for my tank, i soak it in water for 2 days before putting into the tank . but aft 1.5 days my endi die, i do an immed wc, but the next day my del also die. can anybody tell me what happening? :cry:

symptom: they become swollen b4 they die.


12.5" endi (rip)
10" del (rip)
8.5" oscar
4" rainbow shark

75g tank
ammo: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 20~40ppm

I couldnt provide the other reading as i dun have the test kit.

 
Well wouldn't it be a good idea to get a test kit now?
Take a sample to your LFS to have a test done if you don't want to buy one.
Also you should have done a test with the water prior to doing the WC.
Of course you will now see 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate.
Right now there is no telling what would have been the cause.
 
the test is taken b4 the wc & i have already performed a schedule wc the day b4 i add the decor. as for having a test done at the lfs, i dont know of any lfs with this type of service in spore. btw does anyone know the proper way to clean/disinfect the poly-resin decor b4 adding to the tank?

just go any shop and ask if they can help.
if not then give money lorh. :D
 
the best way to clean poly-resin decor would be to wash it in luke-warm water and to scrub every surface of it with a clean rag. I think the fact that both of your poor bichirs died after the introduction of that decoration makes me suspect the decoration was cheaply made or maybe had somthing toxic on it
 
the decor maker is boyu which i bought from C328 for $18, guess i will have to go back & ask them how they clean the decor.
 
it may have been painted with a lead base paint... just a thought, I have never had any issue with plastic\resin decor...
