Have been battling a mystery disease in my african cichlid tank. Tank is a cycled 55gal (Water Params Amm: 0, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: .20ppm, Ph: 8.0). Tank has been up for a year. Problem started when I moved my growouts into this tank. They came from my other tank(also cycled and good) and were fine in there. The fish that were moved out of the 55gal are in my 90 and show no sign of disease or problem.
First water, went cloudy on me...did a partial water change it cleared. Then I noticed all the fishes eyes went cloudy and it looked like they were getting covered in a white fungus. I tried raising the temp and adding salt as described in this section and it seemed to go away. After that the fish started dying off one by one and after they did were covered with the fungus again.
Now to my questions (sorry for the long post). I have on pleco left in the tank and am not sure how, or what to treat. Any suggestions? Also, I plan on moving him into another tank but want to make sure he is clear so I don't infect the other fish. I plan on converting this tank over to brackish....since I am not sure what they had before they died, what do I need to do to get it ready (clean out, change filter cartridges)? I don't want to move my brackish fish from another tank and risk them all dying. I don't have any pics of what it looked like since all are dead and flushed. Really bummed about losing all my african cichlid stock!!
Any help, suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
