well i just found out my heater in my 40 gal isn't working. from the looks of it the heater hasn't been working for a long time. i'm staped on cash for at lest 3 weeks. so i can't afford to buy a new heater. any ideas how to keep the water temp up for my 2 needlenose fish. i don't want them going into shock from the cold water and all. please let me know asap. been doing mini water changes since i found out it's not helping much

Lower the level of your water and put in warmer water every day or when needed to keep the temp up. Just don't raise the temp by too much at once or it may stress them into sickness.

wish i could. the tank is in the basement and no matter if i turn up the heat the basement is allways cold

Heat lamp?

Make sure it's covered good to prevent any surface heat loss. You can wrap it with insulation too to hold in the heat. Newspaper works as insulation in a pinch. GL!

any ideas of how to get a cheep or free heater for it. even a small one will work for the moment.
