Woke up this morning, went downstairs, and bam big foot long dead ornate bichir. Ive had this guy over two years now, raised him from a little baby.
No marks on him, water quality is perfect, sigh. Wish I knew what killed him. Well losing fish is part of the hobby, what can ya do? Just had to vent. :swear:

I lost a fat ornate around 19" and over 5 years old.

The only thing to do is buy more fish..

I've lost 2 to unknown reasons 1 died overnight the other was fine one minute then did a barrel roll and it was downhill from there it was gone in a matter of hours.-Anne

sorry for your loss but sometimes crap happens and theres not a lot we can do about it.

Sorry to hear about your ornate  but something that I've learned is that sadly fish are food for other animals so God didn't make them to live as long as people or some birds....... I'm afraid my birds are thinking about what they will do with my stuff after I die

Yeah fish just die, I tell people that at the pet store all the time. All well, I replaced him with a scarlet pleco.

Sorry to hear :(

Losing any fish sucks. Losing one that you've had for years is that much worse.

This is another example of not knowing how long your fish will live, so before giving advice on how big of a tank the fish should live in, make sure it gets to that size first, then provide the space...You might want to look back and think of what changes happened. If none, then it's a fishkeepers nightmare, you think you got it all figured out that nothing will harm or kill your fish because of the lenght of time you or anyone's fish keeping experience. Better luck on your other surviving fish and make sure you test your water, just to be safe.
