My Polleni started swimming upside down about 10 mins after a water change in my 125. I moved the fish to another tank and it was dead within 10 minutes after that. Tested my water - 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, <20ppm nitrate. Ph around 7.5.
Nothing out of the ordinary except I used Prime for the very first time. I have well water (private well) so it's never been an issue getting chemical-free water, but I figure Prime can't hurt, right?

When I filled the tank I accidentally went about 4 degrees low on the temp. Oops but not the end of the world, right? Almost back to full temp now.

Everyone else in the tank seems fine an hour and a half later.

Can Prime cause this? I'm at a loss... I dumped in 2 capfuls while the hose was running - maybe the fish swam into it before it diluted fully?

Unless you got a REALLY bad batch of Prime, I think that 4 degree difference may have shocked the polleni (they're known to be sensitive to changes in water parameters).

How much water did you change?

Wow didn't think 4 deg could have such an effect. I changed about 60% of the water. I plumbed it into my sump crock so I open a valve and watch until it siphons a little more than half way. No scientific answer but 60% is the guess. 2 caps of prime too much? Right after the 2nd cap I thought maybe it was, but I've never used it before so I figured with 125g total, I'd be good.

Some how i doubt the shock would have killed the polleni... i had mine for many years and i'm sure messed up the temps when filling the tank on more than a few occasions, especially during winter time when i would literally have to turn the hot water on to try and adjust tank temps...

Could there have been some other underlying problem you may have missed?

1 capful is meant to treat 50 gallons, so I can't imagine 100 gallons of treatment is an overdose in a 125 gallon tank...
As long as the fish aren't swimming in primarily Prime, then it's fine.

Yep, that's what I was thinking.
