I just got home from selling some other fish and what do I find all four of my Vieja synspilus in one tank dead it seems the heat got stuck on and cooked them

Sorry to here it. I had similar thing happen Friday night, except it shorted and stopped heating. When I reached in to try and turn it up (water temp had dropped to 70) it popped very loud and was toast. Guess I got lucky.

How old was the heater, and brand?
I usually replace heaters of the cheaper type (e.g. VisiTherm, Ebo Jager) every 12-18 months because of crap like this happening. I've since changed to those titanium with external controller, only problem with those is noone knows how long they last since they're pretty new.
