I feed the big boys smelt lastnight, Seen the usual splashing and hitting the surface. THEN all of a sudden the mono comes up to get a smelt, he splashes on the surface head up the whole length if the tank.
When the splashing stops and I can see what is going on, the mono is up side down unable to right him self...
So I close all the lights and hope he pulls through. This morning, he is still living but just flapping his tail upside down. I did notice that hin right eye is now completley white.

Should I put him down?

this is why i always have like a 6-8" gap from the lid or cover...
sucks to hear dude.
i dont think he'll make it...but heres to hoping.

i always feed my guys under an open lid, they are only small at the moment but i think it would be more important the larger they got.

sorry to hear though dude.

Yeah but the larger they get the more water they splash...

I don't even want to think about the amount of water that would come out of my tanks if I took the lids off. I'd be spending the next half hour or so cleaning the floor with a mop.

Pbass are ambush predators...you can't stop it...its their natural instinct...its something that we all have to come to terms with when keeping these fish.

One feeding technique I found that worked was to throw food into your filter/pump outlet..When I did this it would blow the food throughout the tank so the fish were not always fighting to get front row seats at feeding time. This could get messy with smelt though.

I hope it pulls through for you mate

damn that really sux man, crappy way to lose a fish. hope he pulls thru

sorry to hear it man. good luck
