Hello I am desperately looking for some fish that I used have until a terrible accident happened I hope you can help me replace my stock. I am looking for thalassophrine amazonica and true leaf fish and also shomburgki leaf fish i am the only person in oklahoma who believe it or not had these wonderful ambush predators I am also looking for other passive ambush predators you may suggest for restocking my tanks or if any one else knows of some good ambush predators I will take there suggestions and investigate there compatability.
thanks
Kris

JK JK im just bored in class. but yup there my suggestions.
and welcome to MFK Kris. this is a great community to learn about fish.

ambush fish? get a datnoides or my fave, the butis butis! hangs upside down pretending to be a twig then as the leetle feeshy swims by, boom!

the oxyeleotris marmorata is also a classic ambush hunter... loves to sneak up on those feeders.

No No No marble sleeper goby is to large for me I live in an upstairs apartment and allthough I have no restrictions as to what size tank I can have I keep it all under 80 gallons the weight factor spooks me from going bigger I dont want my tank to fall on my downstairs neighbors lap in the middle of thi night when the floor gives way because i put a 200 gallon tank in. how big does butis butis get and i like fish that dont get to hyper the leaf fish dont like hyper fish but I will look into butis butis I just picked up some leopard ctenopomas today to start over I got 6 of them and put them in a smaller tank I have till they get bigger they are only about an inch right now. But I realy love true leaf fish I had seven of those and 6 shomburgki hanging out with my two ornate bichers in a 75 gallon that was uber filtered

Dear Landser,
I've got a 5" Ctenolucius Hujeta (pike Characin) 1 ,2 or 3 of these would may be suite you their cartive size is not more than 9" . They look good and are interesting to watch also possibly a pike cichlid or as said before a Dat. their suposed to be real characters.
All the best bud,
G. John

ambush predator...well the first one is the freshwater lionfish...you can also get the nandus nandus..does not get big, and I am confident that Wes can make these available for you without a problem!

I had thought about nandus nandus before but didnt have room at the time but now that I have to start all over maybe I should the thing that sucks the most about starting over is all of the fish stores around oklahoma city suck period. They are horrible unless you want neon tetras or oscars. everything I had before was flown in from georgia by a guy that went out of business about a year and a half ago. So Wes how about it can you get some of these I called your shop in west covina but you werent there at the time I will try and call tomorrow or I will check this post later in the week

Butis Butis stay relatively small 5-6 inches from what I hear and they pretty much just hover motionless waiting for lunch pretty sweet fish

Chaca cats are known to change the PH in your tank something you might want to consider when choosing tankmates for them
