Well this is a first for me. I Put the water changer in and than walked away while the tank drained and I came back to find my 3 year old female convict wedged in the tube. Lesson learned.

Hope she pulls through.

Happened to me about 4 years ago with an 8 inch bala. He pulled though and is doing fine. Hope you have the same results

I did that with a wakin goldfish once years ago. Sucked its guts right out of its butt. I felt awful. If she was bent I would euthanize.

I did that with a beautiful baby super red flagtail prochilodous. Head got sucked in. When I tried to save him he was decapitated. For a second I thought maybe I could reattach his head. Lol.

Wow, successfully attaching the severed head back onto a fishes body would have been quite an accomplishment. If the Flagtail would have lived after that you could have called it frankenstein!!!!:grinyes:

Joking aside though this has happened to me. I nearly lost my RTGG this way when he was very small. I now have plastic mesh secured with a zip tie over the end of my pipe.

I use a garden hose to drain my tanks. I cut a couple of v notches at end that goes into the tank. This way, even if a fish try to stick it's head into the house, there would be no suction seal...........or decapitation consequences

Can you post a pic for us that have had decapitation issues? ? Great idea. Would like to see your example!

Damn!.......what a horrible way to go.

I always stick a sponge or screen on the end of any pumps or hoses that are draining water. I learned a long time ago with small fry and juveniles that they’ll always get sucked up. But sometimes adult fish get too close as well.
