It has been a month since she passed. I am sad to say, my 15.5" female breeding Ornate died on 29 Dec. I was away for 5 days over the holidays, but returned on the 28th and all my tanks looked OK. The next morning, I found her on the bottom of the tank. No visible cause of death. She was just not moving. The 17" male is fine and even now, shows not sign of stress. I checked the water parameters, everything was normal for that tank (Temp=74F, PH 7.8, NH4+=0, NO3=40ppm, NO2=0). All filters working and lights were on timers.

I had gotten her in 2009, when she was 15". She had 8 successful spawning. Out of that, I was able to raise 8 fry to maturity. I still have 3 of her offspring. So her legacy lives on. Still, it is was a sad day to lose such a fine Bicher.

Thats really sad to hear, I'd be devastated if any of my Bichirs died, especially my own ornate. I had a similar experience with a Datnoid a few months back; woke up one morning and it was dead. He was my favorite fish to.
Best of luck with the rest of your fish.

Wow I am sorry for your loss. I always loved that you bred them and that you documented it.

I'm soo sorry for your loss :( I'm glad you still have her baby's :)

Thanks all! I just wanted to let you all know. Iv'e lost a few fish over the years. But for some reason, I felt this loss more than any of the others. Life goes on though....so I guess I am in the market for a large (15+") female Ornate. Maybe JA will get some in soon.
Anyway.....thanks again!
