I have an 85 gallon tank and I am running two Marineland Penguin 350 bio-wheel filters. My water looks great and my fish are happy and healthy, but I think I may want to expirament with a sump. I have never used one so I am not sure how exactly to set it up. Could anybody explain to me a good way or several good ways to set it up. and if you don't mind go in depth explaining stuff. Pictures of your current sump setup would be great too. I just think it would be really nice to get rid of the unnecessary crap that is in the tank and move it down below and out of sight.

Check on "You tube" videos for explanations of sumps as well as how to videos. "Joey" a member here has many videos of how to make and explains what they do.With special interest check out K1 and K2 media associated with sumps. Bottom line they are great for adding to stability of your tank and storing needed equipment. And I'd suggest making your own . I just did and I made superior wet dry sumps that handle a lot of waste from rays..................

Here'sone that I made from a used 20 Gal tank for my 90:

I have some drawings that I have put together (overflows and this sump) in the photo section of my profile if that helps.

Have you got any pics/video of it running? How do you find it having the filter socks that low (almost nothing above the water level)? IME That would make them clog up fairly frequently, but maybe because you're using two socks on a 90g tank you'll get better milage out of them.

This is a new set-up for me. It ran for 6 days into my tank cycle and the pump died. My replacement pump should be here today, so when I get it fired back up I plan up putting some videos. While it was running, it was easily handling the 850gph that I'm running.
As far as the filter socks sitting low, the piece that they set on is above ther water level of the bio area, so the water flow goes through the filter socks, then up to the bio area. If they get clogged, there are overflow holes in the top of the first partition that go right to the bio area (to keep the water in the sump and out of the bottom of my cabinet). That being said, after running it, I should have put a little more vertical distance between the level of the filter socks, and the bio area when I built it. So while I'm waiting on the pump, I'm adding a modification to raise the filter socks 1". That should get me more downward flow through the filter socks. I'm also switching from 8" filter socks to 12" filter socks for more milage.
