So I've had my male HRP in a 20 long for about 10 months, he bred (by accident) with a .75" female con from my previous con pair (culled the 30 fry). I'm thinking about breeding him in the 20 long if I can get him a female.

What is your experience with breeding these guys? Should I get more than 2 females?

I'm thinking about breeding him with a platinum HRP from TUIC, but am looking for a blue one if I can get one...

Mine is an F2 HRP "Rio Danli" from Cava, grandparents were imported by Rusty.

Here he is...

I would keep your fry pure and get another Rio Danli to breed with him. A 20 long should be fine. If you find a source, get a couple females and let him pick. Remove the others or they will get pounded when they finally breed.

I have both Rio Danli's and platinums. I don't believe they are the same fish with just a color difference. The platinums are a higher bodied fish and the HRP's are more torpedo shaped.

A 20 long should be fine and two females is more than enough. However, as jonclark said, once he picks a female, the other will have to be removed. Good luck with the project.
