Hey MFKers

I've been keeping fish now for around about 3 years, I've only ever kept FW fish and plan to keep it that way.....for now. Anyway over my time I've spoken to alot of other FW keepers. This also means I've heard countless conflicting opinions as you'd expect. But the one thing that seems to come to my attention is people who never use dechlorinator yet have perfetely healthy fish (or so it'd seem) I've always used dechlorinator but ran out and can't get to the store till the weekend, the tanks arn't in despirate need of a clean I just like to do it once a week on wednesdays.

One chap I spoke to has a Python system (I think its called) he just opens a switch lets out 50% of the water and then fills it back up with cold tap water, he has 3 adult Oscars, 2 Fire eels, pelcs and some other stuff. he's had the stock for years all looks in fantastic condition.

so who are the MFKers that do use dechlorinator and who are those that don't. And if you do use it would you ever consider stopping?

I use dechlrorinate my fish are healthy. I have never had any problems. red devil, 2 flower hrns, ebjd, green terror. 120 gallon

depends on the source of your water. where I'm from I really don't need to use any dechlorinator but if you live in Las Vegas I would buy it in the gallon size.try testing your water parameters and call your local water municipal dept and ask if you can get a read out of whats in your water.

Thats a good idea Punder, I'll get on that tomorrow morning, I live in the Midlands apparently according to the LFS we have good water for discuss as its very soft, not sure of anything else mind,

Cheers for the advice

Like stated above it depends on your water source. I once forgot to add it prior to refilling and after about 20 gallons I knew something was wrong. I had lost almost all my fish. The only survivers (and just barely) were my red O and a king tiger pleco.

I didn't for a while cause my old house had a well. I do now as I am on municipal water.

My directions on my Python said there is no need for dechlorinator because of something in the process of filling the tank with it....I still used it though. Maybe that has something to do with it, that he uses a Python?

As mentioned... it all depends on the water source...

Any other answer is incomplete...
