Stuck in the box again.
Going to make this long and hopefully provide as much info as possible to get the best answer possible so bear with me...

I caught a bunch of wild river rocks, my best guess would be somewhere around 150 lbs of them. I boiled them all already in 10% bleach water for somewhere around 20 minutes a batch and currently have them sitting outside in 3 stack crates soaking in water. The batches have a various number of rinses on them since I had to boil around time to sleep and work. In the intrest of speeding the process up I went and bought some dechlorinator since my hopes are to put in the new rock when I move. Things I want to know:

Will "tap water declorinator" (top fin if it matters) be enough to combat 10% bleach with 1 dose?
Is it possible to overdo the declorinator?
Will multiple cycles of declorinator and water changes work well?
Is there any other steps I should know about in cleaning the rocks?
Should the rock be ok and ready to go on Aug 14th or should I tell the moving crew that I need another week or two of prep time?

:nilly:

I don't think the declor would do much good, IMO

Rinse them quite a few times and you should be good to go

That's what I do with drift wood

Most dechlorinators are designed so that you can overdose them a bit. I would take the rocks out of the solution, rinse them off and put them in the tank. What ever is left should be covered by the dechlor. After numerous rinses, you should be fine.

Just make sure the rocks do not smell like bleach at all! Rinsing several times will do the trick. The Dechlor will help if you are worried...and really you cant overdose....unless you dump the entire bottle in....but even then I am not sure what would happen!

From Experiece.... I bleached some rocks....thought I had rinse one well enough....I dont remember doing the smell check on this particular one....next morning...5 dead fish! It was one of the worst feelings...knowing that a stupid mistake I made killed my fish! Just becareful...bleach is serious business!
