What will i need?
I am thinking a vice, 3 hook sizes, deer hair, feathers, and umm, long dangly plastic stuff... What else will i need to tie peacock bass and largemouth bass lures fly fishing for pbass anyone?:headbang2Also are ther any shrimp patterns???
I wont buy a kit btw
I am looking to spend 20 - 25 bucks

Just getting a decent vice will probably cost you more than $20-25. There may be cheaper ones but they usually suck. A good vice can run $150-$500. Buying a starter set of tools and materials can easily set you back at least another $100. It's expensive to get started, but its cheaper in the end. For example you could buy $30 worth of materials and use that to tie hundreds of flies (which can run $1-$5+ depending on the type.) It's also nice because you can customize your flies for your specific situation. If your still interested in tying, I can try to answer any other questions you might have, I can even share some recipes for bass flies if you would like!

super glue, thread bobbins, knot tying tool, needle nose vice grips and your feathers and etc. knot tying tool is not required as you can tie knots with just your fingers once you learn how. super glue is a must have. have fun and dont be afraid to tie some crazy junk up. I think quite a few of my larger fly rod bass hit just because they were mad at how ugly my flies were.

I would get a beginner kit if I was you I also just started and I like to tie olive wooly buggers with black/olive chenille, works great on largemouth and when going for trout I simply tie the same pattern in a smaller size with a shorter tail and also wrap lead wire around the shank of the hook because it places your fly lower in the water column of the stream, however if you going for largemouth in a pond I would tie large wooly buggers with natural black brown or olive coloring and for the spawning fish go with obnoxious colors such as bright red, pink, lime green, or purple

ALSO: this is just in my area, I recommend you consult with your local fly fishing store

u know, i used like those arts n craft party bag of feather , and used braid fishing line , and tied myself some rockfish shrimp flies once xD fun, worked for a while until the fish bit off the feathers ... that was my minimalist approach to tying flies xD

Have spent over a hundred dollars and mad 50+ flies have caught just as many fish with them i have developed about 5 completely new patterns and a few variations of flies. Btw i bought a kit with a bodkin bobbin, bobbin threader scissors, whip finish tool a vice for thirty bucks at bass pro not the best in the world but they tie very nice flies. pics later
