Ok I have a decision to make. I am looking to get more fish for my bichir tank as you may of noticed by my threads. What I would like is help picking my next bichir

here is what I have currently in the tank
1x lonely albino sengalus 4"

The non bichir that will eventually be in the tank is
1x either a fire eel or tire track eel
1x zebra knifefish or tiger knifefish
1x marbled sailfin pleco
1-2x Ropefish

Here is what I'm looking at
from Wet Spot
Polypterus delhezi TR 3" $30
Polypterus buettikoferi WC 4" $30
Polypterus palmas palmas TR 3" $30
Polypterus teugelsi TR 3"+ $40
Polypterus cf. lapradei "Koliba" TR 3"-4" $35

I was looking at a long fin sengalus at bluegrass aquatics but it looks like it sold today. What I would like is your opinions on looks, personality, and what you think would be a good fit Thank You

I think it boils down to what you like. Opinions will vary but out of the polys you listed as potential purchases i would choose a del or the cb koliba... actually both. You can never go wrong whith dels with them being active and you never here of them causing trouble

I guess I should of mentioned what I've had before and what I like. Previously I've had a regular sengalus (the reason I love bichirs), I previously had an albino sengalus and have one now. I had a palmas pollie I loved. I had an ornate that was very shy and always hid I loved his look but not his personality.

I like bichers with patterns or are different like the long fin I was looking at. I like outgoing bichirs (like everyone). I invite friends over and pull a chair up to the tank at feeding time because I love watching them in hut mode

I have kept a pleco with polys but when I decided to get into them hard core then I made the decision to get rid of him due to its aggressive territorial behavior that was shown by slime sucking. So my first suggestion is no pleco.

I had a marble sailfin pleco with the other bichirs with no problem but I always kept a close eye to make sure he didn't go after the slime coat. If it becomes an issue the pleco will go and quickly.

Ill go for teug and koliba.

those are my favorites too however I was reading another thread about the koliba at wet spot and how they may not be koliba but I haven't gone through the entire thread yet since the threads in this section get soooooooooooo many responses lol :D

Yeah its hard to tell when a cb koliba when small if its real or not, but this is wetspot they have a good reputation, they are good on idying their fish before selling.

Polypterus cf. lapradei "Koliba"

cf. is short for "confer" meaning "compare with" in the context of systematics/taxonomy

aff. is short for "affinis" meaning "similar to"

cf. is used with you have a specimen that is very close to something you know, but you are not sure if it is different.

Regarding this tank raised specie. My opinion and experience with these are that they look more on the cb nigerian lap side, and possess a gray or light brown base.
