I've been planning on ordering a pair of Betta simplex from a reputable breeder I found online. I have a 3 gallon I'm cycling right now that I might transfer my crowntail betta to when I get them and putting the simplex in the 6 gallon. However, I found something else that has caught my interest.
I'm considering putting the B. simplex idea on hold for a while and getting a dwarf puffer instead. What do you guys think is the better option?

did i inspire you to do this with my dwarf puffer topic?

i think putting the DP in the 3gal is a good idea, but you may wanna get a slightly more powerful filter because of the puffer's messy eating habits..

I've actually been considering DPs for a month or so now.
I have a Red Sea nano filter on the 3 gallon with upgraded media. The only thing I would be worried about with a DP in a 3 gallon is possible boredom and aggression issues.
Mr. Belial hates it whenever he's moved from his "spacious" 6 gallon. He literally will not interact with me for a week if I move him for any reason.

i take it Mr. Belial is a betta?

i think that if you go up to the 3gal with the puffer and just have him follow your finger on the tank and look at him once in a while, he wont get bored. and how would he get aggressive if hes the only fish? lol

Yup, Belial is a black orchid crowntail betta. He's an evil little dude.
The 3 gal is going to have a lot of plants in it, so that should allow for some space to explore. I'll need to bump up the temp of the 3 if the puffer goes in there too. Glass cover should solve that problem.

sounds like a good plan to me. do DPs need to be fed snails?

It helps. I have plenty of mini-ramshorns in the 6. Pond snails are also good feeders for them.
