Hello everyone!

I am setting up my first tank ever, and wanted to know what is suggested for Oscars as far as decor goes. All I have in my tank now is black gravel and a 4" bubble disk plus heater and filters.

What should I do for a pair of smallish oscars as far as decor? Wood? Rock? Plants?

also what temperature should I shoot for?

Thanks! :)

Most people would probably say oscars and plants do not mix very well as they like to dig them up. Really, decor is up to you. Some people have pink gravel and pirate ships and others have really nice sand and rock or drift wood set ups. I am partial to the natural setups so if I were you I would look for some driftwood. But again, its up to what you like best.
As for temperature I would say between 76 and 82 with 78 or 79 being the temp I try to keep my aquariums at.

Don't try llive plants unless they are well established before you introduce the fish my Oscar thinks nothing is funnier then to pull plants out of the ground

as far as temp anywhere between 76 and 82 would be fine IMO

DVS, what size tank? Do some looking in the photo lounge, can't go wrong with a setup IMO, as long as you like it, that is all that matters. Over time you will probably switch setups around and change things up, keeps you motivated and interested in the hobby. Welcome and good luck with you new OSCAR!

if the tank id bigger then 55 gallons go for wood and rocks plants will most likely be plucked and/or eaten if smaller keep the decor as little as possible oscars like to swim

thanks for the suggestions!

The tank is a 46 gallon bowfront and will not be permanent. Im going to grab a pair of 3-4 inch oscars and learn the hobby while they grow before getting a bigger tank.

I am partial to driftwood, and am thinking one big piece or two small pieces would be good. I know that driftwood raises PH so I wanted to make sure that wasn't an issue.

Thanks and hopefully I'll have pics to share soon!

Driftwood won't raise your PH, so don't worry about that.

Slate rocks and driftwood make great decor for an Oscar tank.

Looking forward to the pics.
