So just a general questions here, I put some clay pots in my tank to emulate some caves, or just hiding spots in general. So far I have not seen a single fish even go in them.

Right now I have got a small jewel and a small peacock cichlid, there are some mollies in there too, but I am mostly wondering about the two cichlids. Do they just take time to investigate new things? Will eventually they start checking them out maybe claiming one? There is a pleco in there too, I figured he would check them out too, but no go.

I was thinking of adding a few more through out when I get a few more fish, but if they are going to use them whats the point right...

how long have the pots been in there? is this a new tank to the fish as well they may just need time to adjust to the new things give them a couple of weeks if they don't seem to like them then take them out and try something else

The pots have been in there for 3-4 days now...so not very long. They have investigated a little more, but I have not seen anyone go in them yet. The tank is not new, one fish has been in there for probably 2 weeks, the second about 5-6 days, and the newest addition went in yesterday.

The craw fish I put in yesterday was checking them out, but then he dissapeared haha I have not seen him for awhile.

I will give it a month or so and see how it goes. I was just curious how long it should take them to claim some territory. I have not seen any "territory" or agression or anything at all. but I guess thats a good thing right.

Thats what I thought, I just was not sure how long it should take. They are investigating more and more each day, so I think it will all work out.

I would wait a month before you draw any conclusions...and on top of that if they still dont use them...then they just dont need them...they are comfortable in the open...no problem there
