Pretty specific question:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a store in the Chicago area that sells driftwood or branches that do not turn your water yellow. I am not looking for a large stump, something branchy and more decorative that is large enough for geo's to swim through in a 90g tank. The only pieces I have been able to locate to date are stumps and or pieces that heavily stain the water.

I'm in a bit of a pinch for time. But there is a good website feel free to tag as well.

Thanks,

yeah, even when it does turn the water yellow, It only last for like less then a week but soak it in a bucket of water for a few days and change the water in the bucket a few times during that period then should be ood to put in the tank

I understand the why part, but the how to work around it I'm not sure of. The sized pieces I am looking for I will not be able to boil. In my experience I have had drift wood leach for over a year even after boiling mutliple times, granted they were larger show pieces. Are there any sinkable pieces that do not release tanins that you are aware of? Thanks for the quick responses.

i would soak it for a while in a bucket of water for a while. Once the water turns yellow in the bucket, dump it out and refill until it stops. I dont think it's very harmful.

srry didnt see that, maybe its the type of exact wood you have thats doing this. I would suggest talking to an aquarium store about this. I bet they could you hook u up with some nice pieces of driftwood that doesn't do this.

Almost any wood will leech. I like Malaysian wood because its sink right away and does not leech too bad.

I saw someone on a planted aquarium forum selling manzanita driftwood for good prices. Its very branchy.
